Jodie Cochrane Wilkie: Connecting Movement, Health and Education
How can understanding movement help people live better? That question runs through the work of Associate Professor Jodie Cochrane Wilkie at Southern Cross University’s Gold Coast campus. An accredited exercise physiologist and exercise scientist, she brings expertise in biomechanics, injury rehabilitation and clinical exercise physiology to the university’s Faculty of Health.
Jodie’s research connects elite sport with everyday health. Her earlier work supported developing and elite athletes preparing for major international competitions, focusing on performance, injury prevention and recovery. More recently, her interests have extended to people with clinical conditions and movement difficulties, including children with cancer, neuromuscular conditions and neurological conditions. Across these settings, her focus is on helping people improve movement and function.
Teaching is another central part of her role. As coordinator of the Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology, Jodie teaches across rehabilitation, oncology and neurological health. Her Southern Cross University profile describes a commitment to encouraging students’ learning and development. Together, these teaching and research interests show the breadth of exercise physiology, from sporting performance to supporting people through complex health challenges.
